Exercise_00: Projection Station
Due Friday, Jan 06
The exercise will be assessed on the following
criteria:
60% Originality
30% Functionality
10% Clarity
of presentation
The point of this exercise is to get you going.
Aside from today – This will be a paperless studio as much as
possible. All of your work will be
presented on the Web and we will become efficient and proficient at doing
so. We will learn how to throw a page up
in a matter of minutes and how to efficiently get sketches and digital photos
to a digital format.
Do not mistake this for meaning that I encourage digital production. I do
not – I expect you to sketch with a pen and pencil and make physical
models. Digital production is not bad,
but there is a place for every tool in the design process.
With that said, our studio is located in the IDC. The IDC is terrible for localized
projection. This exercise is to design
by Friday a means of making projection possible in the IDC to a small group of
20 individuals. There are no
limitations to what you may propose but keep in mind the following.
A projection area of 10’x10’ is required
Localized lighting control is the primary consideration
Privacy is a secondary
consideration
Acoustics are not a
required consideration
The winner will receive $150
to construct the design over the weekend if he/she chooses
The winner will also be
allowed to choose 2 individuals from studio to help with the construction over
the weekend.
Submissions will be
anonymous and presented by any means one chooses. If it is digital it must be
presented to me on a CD at the start of class on Friday
Good Luck.
