Exercise_02: Means
of Actuation
Due Monday, October 04 (actuated working physical kinetic model + photos /movie posted
on the WWW)
The exercise will be assessed on the following
criteria:
40% Originality
50% Execution
of physical model
10% Timeliness
The point of this exercise is to learn to understand
means of actuation.
The importance lies in
understanding the most simple and robust way to actuate your model by an
outside source.
You have had liberties as to scale and your
choice of materials. It is advised to use servos for the purpose of this
exercise so that you can become familiar with their limitations but you are by
no means limited to them (magnet design and chemistry example were great to see
in the first exercise!)
Things to consider is making your model:
·
If you are using parallax
servos, remember the limited forces and range of speeds
·
Integrate available mechanical
components (Lego gears, pulleys, etc., found objects, and objects from other
mechanical objects.
·
Consider that they need to
work repeatedly over and over again.
