Base for the Space Elevator Space Architecture related design studio focusing on Biomimetics with some expert collaborators from Boeing, NASA JPL and Computer and Electrical Engineering - A super interesting project which "may eventually prove to be one of the paradigm shifts in space exploration and colonization, and commercialization of space." - A. Scott Howe - JPL (Cal Poly) FlockWall (at Coachella) Check out the great images at Coachella Festival - 200,000 prople there for 3 great days! - Design and construction of a full-scale interactive assembly of flocking objects - Should be a good experiment in distributed intelligence (Cal Poly)
IA Workshop (Biomimetics and Interaction Design) Another Workshop in Hong Kong in Interction Design which should produce some great robotic prototypes (HKPU) Viral Structures (Cal Poly) Viral Structures: Final Boards Design of a Large Scale Lunar Colony with Modular Robotics. Great course in progress with Collaborators from NASA and Boeing IA Workshop @ NCTU - GIA Michael gave a one week workshop in Taiwan in November at NCTU. Great short hand's on workshop.
Embedded Interaction Workshop Another month long workshop in Hong Kong on Interactive Architecture. Some great new prototype robotic applications. (HOng Kong)
Ex-Com Couch Fnally some new photos in New Orleans at DesCours: the 8 day visual arts and architecture event - MORE : DesCours Information Green Kit Prototypes Sponsored by EPA. Robotic Window System. click on link for full-scale prototypes - This won a couple of awards.
IA Interactive Architecture book due out soon!...more info to come Check out this teaser
ES home The “ES home” wireless home energy monitor. (A Foxlin project)
*b*u*b*b*l*e*s* A new open-air interactive installation at Materials & Applications center for architecture and landscape research
iZoo Nice class_ Crazy exhibit - Based on Architecture teaching humans how to behave (Sci_Arc)
iSpa AMAZING! Understand that everyting is moving and reacting! (Art Center)
"Foxy" Interactive Restaurant As this is really an incredible project that was exhibited at the JACC in downtown LA - Watch the Movie (Art Center)
Systems Sight and Sound( Link fixed!!! some of the best prototype models ever) A Great course in Hong Kong taught with Yasu Santo and Catherine Hu. (Hong Kong PolyU)
Eco-Robotics Some great projects- and some just ok - but great thinking in terms of interactivity (Cal Poly)
End of Mechanics (Cal Poly) End of Mechanics Nice course looking at applying innovative materials to an interactive architectural environment
Co-Ex Plane Another Great course in Hong Kong taught with Yasu Santo and Catherine Hu (Hong Kong PolyU)
IKS Course taught at MIT. In these days we had to use LEGOS for the robotics! Pretty good Prototype models and good Inverse Kinematic Models (MIT)
Kinetics and CAD-CAM A bit of a headache of a class - A good lesson in dealing with the realities of doing a public project in downtown LA! Some nice projects though - especially the cnc waterfall (SCI-ARC) |

You can at least now pre-order the book 70,000 words and 350 color images with a nice hard cover and Bill Mitchell wrote the preface - Don't worry - This is not the real cover - (Princeton) (Amazon) (Our PR Page)
Some of Michael's Publications in Interactive and Kinetic Architecture - Please use the CV for referencing Here is a direct link to the old KDG MATRIX of kinetic architecture Check out Michael’s office : FOXLIN http://www.foxlin.com for more interactive projects - especially under research and development Active Matter Research Group Active Matter explores the research and design of autonomous and programmable architecture by using techniques of self-organizing systems, nano-scale design, embedded computation, and networked environments. |
